Michigan is home to some of America’s best entertainment. Between the four major Detroit teams, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Michigan International Speedway, Michigan sports fans are covered. Couple that with the fantastic venues across the state, such as DTE Energy Music Theatre and Van Andel Arena, and fans have unprecedented access to their favorite concerts, shows and events.

Unfortunately, it’s not all comebacks and encores for fans in the Mitten. An antiquated ticket law that prohibits fans from reselling tickets for more than face value is a constant threat to fans’ wallets and their economic freedom.

Michiganders risk jail time if they want to sell their unused tickets to a neighbor for a fair market price. At the same time, it’s perfectly legal for big ticket companies make large profits reselling tickets online thanks to a loophole that allows them to make special deals with venues.

HB 4015 will eliminate Michigan’s 84-year-old ticket law and give fans the right to buy and resell tickets at whatever price they choose. State government does not need to waste any more resources selectively enforcing this law, or even keeping it on the books.
