Help bring back Tavares Winn-Dixie store
The Issue
For over 30 years, the Winn-Dixie store on Tavares has been much more than just a grocery store. It has been a cornerstone of our community, a place where families gather, employees become lifelong friends, and memories are made. I have had the privilege of being a part of this cherished institution, both as an employee and a loyal customer.
Working there for over a year, I witnessed first-hand the dedication of my fellow employees, many of whom have devoted decades of their lives to serving this community with pride and commitment. It’s not just a job to them; it’s a way of life that connects them to the heart of Tavares.
However, with the sudden transition from a Winn-Dixie to an Aldi, that sense of community and belonging is at risk of being lost forever. Aldi, a different shopping experience, simply doesn’t offer the same familiarity and personal touch that we’ve grown to cherish at Winn-Dixie. We have built not just a store but a family—one that spans generations.
According to market research, neighborhood grocery stores support local employment more than chain ones. Retaining our Winn-Dixie ensures that our community keeps its vibrant employment opportunities and local economy robust. A report from the Economic Policy Institute found that for every two grocery store jobs created, a multiplier effect is produced that supports additional jobs in the local area.
I personally know employees who have invested over 30 years into this store, making it an integral part of their lives. Their livelihoods and the bonds they've nurtured should not be cast aside.
I urge you - our neighbors, friends, and families from Tavares - to join in our appeal. Let us bring back our beloved Winn-Dixie store and preserve the spirit of our community. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and help restore what rightfully belongs to Tavares.
