Help Bring Back Mountain Bike Jumps for Children in the Chesterfield Park Estate!
The issue
Dear Supporters,
We, the residents of Chesterfield Park, are confronting an issue that profoundly impacts the wellbeing and overall development of our children.
For some time, children in our Chesterfield Park Estate had taken the initiative to construct Mountain Bike jumps on local council land. These attractions were far more than just mounds of dirt: they were catalysts for outdoor activity, community building, and old-fashioned childhood fun. They were places where our kids could be kids - off their screens, out in the open air, meeting new friends, and honing their skills.
Sadly, these Mountain Bike jumps were removed by the local council recently, in response to perceived risks to safety for both the young bikers and the local community members.
While we understand and respect the need for safety, it is crucial to address that the other council-provided option was BMX facility at Western Park Reserve is over 3.1 km away. This distance presents too far a trek for many of our young ones, who closely benefit from the opportunity to interact and play within their own familiar surroundings nor does it cater for Mountain Bikes.
Therefore we come together in this petition to propose the establishment of a dedicated, safe, and sustainable spot for our kids to enjoy their Mountain Bike jumps within the Chesterfield Park Estate. By doing so, we would be investing not only in our children's physical health but also their sense of community and friendship.
We are urging that all members of our community, and those beyond who believe in the value of such spaces for children, sign this petition. Your signature will present a strong case to the council, illustrating the demand, necessity, and impact of such a facility in our locale.
