Yankton, South Dakota is a growing community of over 16,000 residents within city limits, and more than 23,500 people across Yankton County. Many nearby towns are very small and do not have full grocery options, so residents throughout the county regularly travel into Yankton to shop for essentials. Our city serves as a grocery hub for the surrounding area, yet we currently have only two major grocery options: Walmart and Hy-Vee.

While we are grateful for the stores we do have, prices, especially at Hy-Vee, can be difficult for many families, seniors, and individuals living on tight budgets. With the rising cost of groceries, our community is actively looking for more affordable and accessible options closer to home.

Aldi is well known for offering quality food at lower prices, and many people in our community consistently express how much they wish we had an Aldi in Yankton. The closest location is over an hour away, which makes shopping there unrealistic for most residents.

Conversations among friends, families, school communities, and across local Facebook pages show strong local support for bringing Aldi here. Our town and surrounding county would benefit from having another grocery option that prioritizes affordability, convenience, and quality.

Yankton serves not only city residents but also families from nearby rural towns who depend on our community for grocery shopping. An Aldi location would be well supported by our regional population and would positively impact local families while contributing to the overall strength of our community.
