We, the undersigned, respectfully urge U.S. immigration authorities to approve a humanitarian parole request for Dakira Smith, a vulnerable 15-year-old currently held at the Grand Bacolet Home in Grenada.

She’s is a child with a traumatic history, including being molested. Despite these deeply scarring events, she has never received sustained therapy or trauma-informed care.

Her emotional and behavioral challenges—running away from home, skipping school, and being drawn into environments involving drugs and exploitation—are signs of untreated trauma. After a three-month residential program, she was promised counseling that never came. With no proper mental health services available to her, Dakira continues to spiral, and when she acts out, the court system responds by locking her up rather than offering the care she needs.

Most recently, she attempted to leave the state of Grenada entirely, a cry for help that reflects how unsafe and unsupported she feels.

Dakira has caring family members in the United States who are ready to take responsibility for her, provide a safe and stable home, and ensure she receives the therapy, education, and emotional support she needs to recover and rebuild her life.

We ask immigration officials and humanitarian decision-makers to act with urgency and compassion. Please grant Dakira Smith a chance to escape her current crisis and begin healing in a supportive environment.

Please support her humanitarian parole and give her the second chance she so desperately needs.
