Dear caring you,

The situation for Afghan women human rights defenders in Pakistan has intensified dramatically. And yet—there is hope. Because your continued support is not only keeping this movement alive—it’s saving lives.

⚠️ Heightened threats and exploitation
In the past days, our group was targeted by a Taliban intelligence officer posing as a supporter on WhatsApp. He infiltrated a support group by falsely offering evacuation to Germany. Some women, hopeful and desperate, shared sensitive information. They are now receiving direct threats—“We know where you are. We will find you. We know your families in Afghanistan.”

This was not an isolated incident. It’s part of a pattern of intimidation and trauma that our women and women rights defenders face daily.

🚨 Shrinking space for safety in Pakistan
The Pakistani government has announced it will cease issuing visas as early as May, not June as previously stated. Afghan are being systematically pushed into illegality. Nearly 900,000 Afghans have already been deported, and our group is at high risk.

In addition, new government decrees criminalize housing or employing Afghans, resulting in sudden evictions across our network. Families are being told to leave by April 30. Many are malnourished, sick, and living in unsafe conditions. Pregnant women lack access to even basic medical care.

This crisis is eerily reminiscent of the situation of the Jewish people in Europe at the beginning of the Second World War, where the room for maneuver is slowly but surely shrinking. The noose is tightening more and more.

🌍 A breakthrough: Brazil steps forward
In the midst of this crisis, there’s good news.

🇧🇷 The Afghan embassy in Tajikistan—run by the former Vice President of Afghanistan—has agreed to issue criminal record clearances for all adults in our group. This solves one of the most serious barriers to Brazilian visa applications.

🌱 Panahgah has submitted the first 32 resettlement cases to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice.

👩‍💼 Brazil has sent an additional official to Islamabad, doubling its embassy’s visa processing capacity from 20 to 40 visas per week.

If all goes well, the first group may arrive in Brazil by mid-May. This is the first real sign that Brazil is acknowledging the scale of this humanitarian crisis—and is ready to act.

🙌 What you’ve made possible
Nearly 500,000 signatures have given this campaign global weight.
Your donations have funded emergency medical care, shelter, and now, the first round of relocation.
Your messages have been a source of courage for our WHRD's living in fear.

✨ Help us do more – sponsor a family
Now, we need to go further. We are beginning to introduce anonymized family profiles from our group to potential sponsors.

💠 Could you or your organization sponsor a woman or a family?
💠 Could you contribute to help them reach safety and stability?
💠 Or gather a group of friends or colleagues to support one family together?

Each $15,000 USD helps fund the safe relocation, housing, and care for one small family for their first year in Brazil.
