Help a mother die on her own terms

Christy O’Donnell has a terminal prognosis of less than six months to live, due to lung cancer that has spread to her brain, spine, ribs and liver. She has been spending her last days trying to fight for those who want to die with dignity. Like most with a terminal prognosis, her remaining months will be full of pain for her and her family. Christy wants people like herself to have a choice.

Christy wants to be remembered for her life as civil rights lawyer, police officer, a mother, and devout Christian; not as a person wasting away from cancer. Thanks to the help of people like Christy, a new bill has been introduced in California that could make Death with Dignity a possibility.

Please tell California to pass and sign the Death with Dignity legislation. It will be a big step in getting Death with Dignity passed around the country.

When I first heard Christy’s story, I understood why she wanted the right to die with dignity. I’m the daughter of a parent who died a slow, painful death. When I was 16, my father was diagnosed with ALS and died two years later, weighing only 60 lbs.

We can help Christy avoid this pain and suffering. Her daughter, Bailey, should not have to experience what I went through, watching her beloved mother die slowly while suffering. If California, the most populous state in our country, passes this law, it would be a landmark moment that would ripple across our country. More importantly, people like Christy would finally have peace of mind and a choice about when it’s time for them to go.

We can help her by signing this petition to pass the Death with Dignity law in California.
