Petition updateHedgehogs Need More Than Public Love — They Need Legal ProtectionJust when you thought it was over

Just when you thought you’d said goodbye to the last hedgehog another one shows up looking for food, fresh drinking water & a place to kip. A juvenile hedgehog appeared in one of our feeding stations between torrential rain showers overnight & spent a few hours eating, drinking, sleeping and exploring our back garden.

Sadly many autumn hoglets will not make it through hibernation; habitat loss, climate change and human interference dramatically reduce the chance of young & adult hedgehogs surviving through winter. We do what we can but it just isn’t enough.

This petition has now exceeded 125,000 supporters and that is a testament to the importance of getting hedgehogs the legal protection they need to survive as a species in the UK.

I’m still waiting for a government response to my other hedgehog petition. 13 days have passed since this https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/643081 met the requirements for a written response. I’m hoping this second petition will reach the 100,000 signatures needed for a parliamentary debate but we’re just not getting the same level of support. If you haven’t signed & shared https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/643081 please do as the closing date, 29 February 2024, will be here before we know it.

I’ll post another update when the government decides to respond. Paws crossed it will be soon.

Thank you, prickly pals.
