#HeavySafety | Make Indian Roads Safer By Improving Heavy Vehicles Standards

The Issue

Imagine this -

You're cruising on the highway with your friends or family, listening to music and having a fun time. It's night, you're out for a fun and innocent drive with your family or friends.

You're going at a considerably OK speed, you have your lights on as you enjoy the fresh blasting air from the windows. All of a sudden, when it couldn't come at a worse time, you see something ahead of you.

It's a tractor, you couldn't see it because it has no taillights, or any reflector of sorts. As a result, you saw it at the last second. You try your best, you brake hard, and you ask others to brace.

You realise, it's too late. You accept your fate. Due to the careless servicing and the design of the tractor trolley, an accident has occurred.

To make you understand how impactful this is, let's suppose your cherished one perishes in the crash. Of course, we don't want this - it is a terrible thing that no one should go through. Thankfully, you survive. However, you carry the weight of guilt and remorse.

Was it your fault? Here's the answer - if you were driving safely, it was 100% the fault of the tractor trolley in front of you.

Even if you aren't going to be driving, imagine yourself in the passenger seat as you see this unfortunate event unfold.

This traumatic and sometimes fatal scenario is what many people go through, and sometimes even lose their lives in. Not only tractor trolleys, some trucks have the same lapse in safety too.

Our roads are shared by various vehicles - cars, buses, motorcycles, and more imposingly, tractors and heavy vehicles. However, as it stands today, the lighting and signalling systems of many tractor trolleys and heavy vehicles are inadequate. A considerable number of these transport mechanisms do not have essential safety features like taillights, brake lights, reverse beepers, and reflectors. This lack puts everyone on the road in danger, causing accidents and countless preventable deaths.

We must rise up to bring about a change in this alarming situation. Our demands might seem simple, but they are undoubtedly crucial: all tractor trolleys and heavy vehicles should be mandated to install proper taillights, brake lights, reverse beepers, and reflectors. The purpose of these safety measures is not merely to comply with the law. It is about fostering a holistic environment where every road user can feel safe.

Driving rules must be strictly enforced. Violating various rules has become a daily thing on our Indian roads: whether it is violating lane discipline or speeding, they all have a drastic impact on various lives.

Let's come together to bring about a change.
