Minister, rhododendron has flowered and seeded in areas of Killarney National Park once cleared of this weed by Groundwork. Act immediately and ensure these areas are once again clear.

The issue

The introduced rhododendron weed is a huge threat to the ecology of the Killarney National Park.  Rhododendron inhibits regeneration through its almost complete shading of the ground.  If the years of volunteer work by Groundwork is not followed up immediately in a thorough and systematic way by National Park and Wildlife Service, then oak woods of KNP face a grim and uncertain future.
