Gender Affirming Healthcare is a necessity and should be accessible. This is a petition for access for transmen who need surgery. In the past 3 years only one provincial hospital in Gauteng has been assisting with performing top surgery only which is Chris Hani Baragwanath. In 2022 they have manged to perform 5 surgeries through the breast clinic department. This year 2023 only 2 surgeries have been performed.  In a country which has a huge population comprised of LGBTIQ people yet limited access to Healthcare. Groote Schuur hospital has a waiting list of more 20 years of people waiting to receive top surgery. There has been no changes in years to rights that impact transgender people who need surgery as part of the gender reassignment.  This is now a national crisis as we cannot rely on only one hospital in 9 provinces to do this procedure.  The national health department needs to provide provincial hospitals with the resources to perform these surgeries especially where they have the staff. Gender dysphoria is destroying lives where some people end up depressed and commit suicide as they cannot live their true selves in the incorrect body.
