The suicide rate in doctors investigated by the GMC is high. See http://www.hospitaldr.co.uk/blogs/our-news/gmc-reviews-handling-of-doctors-after-suicide-rate-revealed
Recently, yet another doctor hanged himself following GMC intervention
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3331748/Newly-qualified-doctor-voted-Trainee-GP-Year-hanged-worrying-failed-alcohol-test-work.html
The GMCs solution is for doctors to toughen up http://www.gponline.com/gmc-calls-emotional-resilience-training-28-doctor-suicides/article/1327209
It was Dr Liz Miller who first blew the whistle on this http://www.theguardian.com/society/2008/jun/11/mental.health. At the time, the Royal College of Psychiatrists ignored the issue. The GMC turned a blind eye. They did eventually do what we call a "lip service in house review". This is when someone raises and issue and a review is done with no blame, consequences or solutions.
It's impossible for me to describe what an obtuse wicked creep of an organisation the GMC is. You have to have gone through the system to experience their wicked behaviour. I suppose I refused to die because quite frankly eating fish and chips by the sea in Penzance was a lot better than mingling with creeps in highly paid jobs.
I think the GMC always remained puzzled that their usual psychological warfare tactics just didn't gel with me. I decided a long time ago that no one would break me or drive me to suicide. Firstly, I liked chocolate far too much. Secondly, life was worth more than their pitiful little deceitful games. I've lived to see that the screener who wrongfully labeled me mad actually had Alzheimer's Disease herself. Dr Mann revered by society and someone who felt she could control and abuse her powers had lost her own mind. In the end, I had to pity the way she led her life and the way it ended.
No doubt I plan on living further to see how Karma plays out on the rest. I'm never certain on what prompts people to carry on living through their trials and tribulations. There is always some light but the trick is to be able to find it. I think many look to others for solutions. The key to everything lies within yourself and your view of the world. Only you control your destiny. You can either allow organisations to control your life or you can take control yourself.
I guess I'm grateful for the fact that I have known so many patients and families who have fought bravely through thick and thin. My troubles were irrelevant in comparison. If these people grasped onto life, why shouldn't we all do the same?. We have one life to live. Even though we will come across wicked people, the trick is never to allow these wicked people from letting you see your bit of the sunlight.
So, yes its true that I still love chocolate and I still get excited about the idea of fish and chips by the sea as well as sugary doughnuts from Blackpool. There is a reason for this, it really demonstrates that I was taken into the GMC as a junior doctor, I came through as a survivor. Many who have faced ambush by the GMC will tell you that coming out of it in one piece is a bit like coming out of prison. Being a survivor is probably the only success I am really quite proud of. Its probably because I consider life a journey. You jump through your trials and tribulations and carry on this journey. Its never the end until the fat lady sings. Even after the fat lady sings, there is always another fat lady and another song to follow. No matter how bad the days are, there is always another day and another dawn. Even if you have nothing to your name, you still have your life and you still have hope.
Here is a letter by Keanu Reeves

It's worth reading about what makes life worth living. Better still, get on the journey and make a life worth living.... and on those bad days, you can still look up at the stars in the night sky and know that nothing material really matters. All that matters is you, how peaceful you are and the fact you always strive to do your best.
