In the midst of the starry status of some whistleblowers, I thought I would name some brave doctors who did their job but were forgotten last year. 1. Otto Chan http://doctorsintrouble.webs.com/afterwhistleblowing.htm This is possibly the best summary on life after whistleblowing. Its realistic. Chan has always been a great guy. The difference between him and others is that he has no arrogance about him. He is just Dr Chan, the guy who tried to do his job. 2. Robert Phipps. 1. Panorama http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/4868560.stm 2. The Daily Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-143339/170-000-cancer-care-whistle-blower.html Phipps and his secretary won some leading Employment Tribunal judgments. They didn't need lawyers, they just did it themselves. If we look at these two cases, apart from their testimony online, no review or inquiry has told us what improvements were actually made in terms of patient safety. The Trusts have not told us how they plan on learning from their experiences nor have they told us what they would do with future whistleblowers. Rita Pal
