Recently, Medical Council of India (MCI) barred National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) students from appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) stating that NIOS students lack practical lessons which is completely a farcical stance and opinion.
Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) are conducted frequently in order to increase the practical knowledge, unlike other boards where practicals are just a mere idea to surge one's marks, NIOS is a board where the actual practice happens.
MCI also barred Foreign Medical Graduates with NIOS secondary school certificates from obtaining Eligibility Certificates which are a requisite to appear for Foreign Medical Graduates Exam in the country.
Having completed two years of Med School myself, I don't think the practicals in secondary schooling is as important as MCI says it to be, it bemuses me particularly when MCI states this as a reason having approved the board themselves in a Board of Governors meeting held on 13th August 2012.
NIOS students are among the best of the country with a lot turning out as able citizens all alone. It is an imperative issue which needs to be addressed as soon as possible I hope the concerned authorities amend the obsolete laws which MCI states and help benefit the Open Schooling students. Sign this petition and help Open Schooling students get the justice which they rightfully deserve.
