Improvement in the quality of food served in government administered Colleges and Hostels

Improvement in the quality of food served in Government administered College Hostels
By the time we reach college we have all heard infamous stories about the kind of food served at some of the most renowned institutes in the country. The mythic tales like that of the yellow dal being diluted by water evoke mirth and laughter. However, when these horrific stories and legends transform into lived reality, to be confronted everyday, they stop being funny.
Majority of the students travel from off cities to earn a spot in Central Universities. After having slogged for months to clear that entrance or having successfully battled the ever increasing cut offs , they have to grapple with the abysmal quality, and often inadequacy, of the food served at these college hostels. When their energies should be concentrated at acquiring education, they're left to struggle with the problem of arranging decent meals for themselves.
Hostel Food doesn't even fulfill the health requirements of the students, let alone satisfying the taste buds. On the contrary, every few months the news feed is filled with stories about students falling sick after having consumed a degraded quality of food. The hospitalisation of 55 students, after complaining of nausea and diarrhoea, last year, is a case in point - http://wap.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/students-hospitalised-after-consuming-food-from-college-hostel-116082200559_1.html
It is disheartening to see that cases like these neither get any attention form the bodies involved nor appropriate coverage from the media.
In this context, it needs be mentioned that the situation is not as bad as to unchangeable. The hostel authorities need to ensure that the grains and other raw materials they're buying are not low standard. In case funds are the issue, most students wouldn't mind a marginal raise in the hostel fees. They anyways end up spending a conspicuous amount in buying their adequate meals and snacks.
Given the fact that we end up losing a large force from the student community to suicides, we cannot afford to lose more owing to curable chinks in the administration. This petition is aimed at reducing further burden on students, who are already under several kinds of pressures.
