Fund Gender Confirming Surgeries for New Brunswickers

Fund Gender Confirming Surgeries for New Brunswickers

The Issue

With Prince Edward Island's recent decision (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/health-pei-will-cover-costs-of-3-surgeries-for-transgender-patients-1.2957176) to fund three "gender reassignment surgeries," New Brunswick is the last province in the nation to make its trans community members pay for surgery and hormones out of pocket.

Minister Boudreau did not consult with members of the trans community on the topic and disregarded clinical and policy evidence that suggests these type of procedures benefit whole communities and promote health equity.

The trans community is a vulnerable population more likely to be victims of violence, depression, and suicide. Many trans individuals who wish for surgery and hormones may have a difficult time securing employment and their lower income status creates a barrier to these medical outcomes.

Show Minister Boudreau, The Premier of NB, and the rest of the country that you do not stand for intolerance. Sign the petition to show support for the human rights of your fellow New Brunwsiwckers.

End the stigma today and put NB on the same page as the rest of Canada.
