The Ban of Pesticide Use

The Ban of Pesticide Use
Why this petition matters
We, undersigned the citizens of Canada
Call upon the Environment Minister of Canada
To ban all use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides
Nitrous Oxide has increased by 30% since 1980 and more than two-thirds of those emissions are caused by agriculture. The main offender is the increase in agricultural lands and the use of synthetic fertilizers. Nitrous oxide is overlooked as a greenhouse gas emissions as it does not steal the headlines like carbon dioxide or like the methane that is emitted from cows. However, it is a significant contributor to global warming, as the concentration has increased immensely over the recent decades. Nitrous oxide is mainly produced by microbes in the soil and is released naturally from tropical rainforests. However, human-made sources are the reason for the large increase of N2O emissions. Modern agriculture relies heavily on over-production and the best way to reduce N2O is by using organic fertilizer, as it releases nitrogen more slowly (Wozniacka, 2019, https://civileats.com/2019/09/19/the-greenhouse-gas-no-ones-talking-about-nitrous-oxide-on-farms-explained/
