Dear petitioners we have reached nearly 4200 on-line and hard copy signatures.
Our past updates have chronicled the serious violations under the past management
at the Hunterdon Humane Animal Shelter. We are aware that the Shelter is trying
to reopen and there is no indication that there are profound changes to the Shelter’s
board. Our permanent grassroots organization, Hunterdon County Animal Shelter
Committee, is determined to take a citizen’s watchdog role if the Shelter reopens.
We will report violations found at the Shelter to the state, Veterinary Medical
Examiners, county, Alexandria Board of Health, and the Shelter’s Supervising
Veterinarian. We will also keep you informed if euthanasia is performed at the
shelter and what method is used.
The Supervisory Veterinarian has an especially critical and active role in keeping
the Shelter compliant with the requirements of the New Jersey State Board of
Veterinary Medical Examiners. He or she is required to supervise and is
responsible for the disease control and health care of all animals housed at the
Shelter. The Shelter must post a form that contains the Supervising Veterinarian’s
contact information in an area that is visible to the public. Be assured that we will
be reporting concerns of violations of disease control protocol to the Supervising
Veterinarian. The Supervising Veterinarian and the Shelter must be held
responsible for following all the requirements spelled out by the New Jersey
