My 8 year old son has fond memories of watching the beautiful trees, flowers, butterflies and birds and the shy Hares and mongoose we spotted sometimes in the Bangalore University BioPark with admiration. He was surprised when the PeaHen and PeaFowl chicks were running frightened of him even though he didn't mean any harm. He happily took part in the tree planting with his grandfather and wanted to water them daily like he does the pots at home. I am at a loss of words to explain why the trees are being cut in the campus to construct buildings when there are so many empty buildings everywhere and so much open land elsewhere. I am unable to explain what will happen to the birds, butterflies and Hares, how scared they will be of the bulldozer when they are scared of a small child. He cannot understand why we planted the trees and why we are destroying them knowing that the young PeaFowl chicks he saw have nowhere else to go! He feels that if he blocks the path of the Bulldozer with his bicycle the forest will be saved. I hope it does get saved and he and his friends continue to believe that humans can protect and preserve nature for their generation. Hope to preserve the innocent beliefs of a child! I hope more children in Bangalore can get fascinated by beauty of nature close to their homes
