Game of Thrones, stop using real fur, leather, silk or any animal products in costuming
The Issue
Game of Thrones is a highly popular TV-series enjoyed by many. They just finished their 6th season and will go to at least 8 seasons. I urge you to keep animal cruelty off the show and keep it as just a fantasy. The use of real fur is completely unnecessary and promotes the cruel fur industry. Fur-bearing animals are killed by gassing, neck breaking, anal electrocution, clubbing, trapping and injection with poisons so as not to damage their pelts. These animals live horrendous existences when they are "ranch-raised" on a "fur farm", or are brutally killed in the hands of trappers. On ranches, they spend their entire lives in tiny, filthy cages and suffer tremendously, many become deranged until they meet with brutal deaths. The U.S. produces about 10% of the cage-raised fur in the world; 60 to 75% of the fur in coats sold in the U.S. comes from cage-raised animals, and 90% of cage-raised foxes are used in fur-trim.
As it takes place in several different environments, and to look in period, costumes are required to provide an authentic picture of harsh conditions such as winter and cold weather. Unfortunately these costumes are made using real fur from animals. Many animals have suffered and been killed for the fur and leather in GoT. According to this website: http://cartermatt.com/39006/game-of-thrones-season-3-spoilers-check-out-the-progress-report/ that refers to a list from HBO, shows that more than 31,000 square feet of real leather and fur was used for costumes in season 3, alone. Instead of obtaining fur from living, feeling animals the TV-series and its makers should consider using faux fur. Faux fur is a cheaper alternative in which no animals are harmed. Sign this petition to stop the use of real fur and to replace it with faux fur.
