We, the students of Lala National High School, respectfully ask the school administration to reconsider its current rules regarding student appearance, hairstyles, clothing, uniforms, and personal style.

We understand that schools need rules to maintain discipline, cleanliness, safety, respect, and a proper learning environment. However, we believe that some of the current restrictions go beyond what is necessary and leave students with very little opportunity to express their individuality.

Students are expected to maintain a basic and standardized appearance, including simple hairstyles, limited personal styling, and the same basic uniform. While these rules may be intended to promote discipline and uniformity, they can also make students feel that they have little freedom to express their personalities, creativity, and individuality.

We believe that looking different does not mean being disrespectful, undisciplined, or incapable of learning. A student's hairstyle, clothing, or personal style does not determine their character, intelligence, behavior, or dedication to their education. Self-expression is an important part of growing up and discovering our identities, and students should be given reasonable opportunities to express themselves while still respecting school standards.

We are not asking for all school rules to be removed or for students to wear inappropriate clothing. We understand the need for guidelines concerning cleanliness, hygiene, safety, appropriate clothing, and respectful behavior. Instead, we are asking for a better balance between discipline and individuality.

We ask the school to consider allowing more freedom in hairstyles, reasonable accessories, small personal touches to uniforms, approved uniform variations, or designated days where students have greater freedom in what they wear. These changes could allow students to express themselves without compromising the school's standards or sense of community.

We also believe students should have an opportunity to participate in discussions about policies that directly affect their everyday lives. Listening to students does not mean removing the authority of teachers or administrators. It means recognizing that students are part of the school community and that their opinions and experiences are worth considering.

A school community does not have to consist of students who all look exactly the same. We can maintain unity, respect, discipline, and professionalism while still allowing individuals to show who they are.

This petition is not meant to attack our teachers, staff, or administration. It is a respectful way for students to communicate their concerns and encourage an open discussion about whether our current policies can be improved.

We are not asking for unlimited freedom—we are asking for reasonable freedom to be ourselves.

Our appearance may seem like a small matter, but having the ability to express our individuality can help students feel more confident, comfortable, and valued. We believe students should be trusted to make responsible choices about their appearance while continuing to follow reasonable standards.

We therefore respectfully ask Lala NHS to review its current appearance and uniform policies and consider giving students greater freedom of self-expression while maintaining the cleanliness, safety, respect, and discipline expected in our school.

Let us be students without making us all look the same.
