Stop The Destruction of the Deer/Wildlife Habitat in Dagnam Park Nature Reserve -The Manor

The Issue

FOR ALL WORKS IN THE MAIN DAGNAM PARK NATURE RESERVE TO CEASE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT WITH AN URGENT FULL INVESTIGATION TO TAKE PLACE...

The destruction of an environmental area which has always be known as a natural wildlife shelter and safe haven is having catastrophic consequences. Causing large amounts of deer to disperse out into the open and onto extremely non deer friendly areas such as the estate and busy roads. The displacement taken place has changed their entire way of living, leaving them defenceless and confused as to where to go for cover.

Questions we would like answered:

  • Why are such major works being implemented without wildlife impact assessments along with consultations with ward councillors, park users and residents?
  • Why are these areas being opened up to allow public access to an area always known to be used as a wildlife shelter?
  • Why are trees are being cut down for public pathway through the habitat to the back fields, widely known as the back birthing fields? With the reserve being hundreds of acres in size the public have more than enough areas to access.
  • Why are beautiful trees fully in bloom being cut down to allow diggers in to the park?
  • Why have all the berries been harvested and donated elsewhere?
  • Why are uncovered cages are being placed around the lakes and ponds again without consultation? This method to prevent bank erosion may be used in other areas which do not have wild free roaming deer.

We see this as an insult to those who stood together and fought against this area of natural habitat being destroyed for a Solar Farm.

Unfortunately we are not able to repair the complete devastation that has already taken place, but we must do our best to stop any further actions to this area.

This park has been overseen for over 17 years. If deer are seen as detrimental to the park why was this not addressed in a professional responsible manner with correct procedures and risk assessments in place.

Where are they to go?

The park is surrounded by extremely busy roads.

Again, where are they to go!!

Imagine waking up one day only to discover that all you have ever known has instantly changed. The home you have lived in throughout your entire life has been destroyed. All around you are elements that could easily cause you harm and there is no way of escaping. This is what is happening to our wildlife in our park, right now!

We are concerned beyond belief as very soon the females will be having their young. Last year was bad enough as many were disturbed and chased leaving the newborns being separated from their mothers. Young fawn stripped away from their mothers so soon after being born do not stand a chance of survival.

We, Harold Hill Deer Aid try to rescue as many as possible but unfortunately a very, very low percentage of these survive.

Please sign and share this petition in support of stopping this environmental and wildlife devastation.

This is heartbreaking.
