Have Lindsay Police Reprimanded For Animal Cruelty

Have Lindsay Police Reprimanded For Animal Cruelty
The Issue
On April 12, 2023 officers from the Kawartha lakes police service were contacted to dispatch an injured raccoon that had been suspected to be hit by a car. The officers told the caller that they would dispatch the animal in a humane manner.
They did the exact opposite of that. Instead they pinned to poor animal with a catch-all-pole (poles used by animal control) and repeatedly hit it over the head with a shovel until it died.
Repeatedly beating an injured animal over the head with a shovel until it is dead is NOT HUMANE, THAT IS AN ACT OF MALICE!!
what if this was someone's pet, would they have done the same? What's stopping them? Certainly not their badge.
It is understandable that dispatching their firearms was not an option in the given area (Lindsay Street south)
HOWEVER, they could have contacted one of several local wildlife rehabilitation centers to come trap and humanly euthanize the raccoon. they could have used a cat carrier or a live trap to move it to an area to humanly euthanize the animal if they were that concern about public safety. There many alternative ways it could have been handled
It raises a question on why they're so unequipped to deal with situations like this, especially when the ministry of natural resources and forestry's website says to contact the police.
They have no regard for the nightmares nd emotional turmoil this caused the children who witnessed this horrible event.
YES this was done in FRONT OF SMALL CHILDREN, in front of a day care center
As well as in front of multiple eye witnesses.
If this was a civilian, anyone with out a badge and uniform; they would be charged with the torture and death of an animal under the Canadian criminal code.
THE OFFICERS INVOLVED NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR MALICIOUS ACTS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST INNOCENT WILDLIFE.
"The Criminal Code of Canada prohibits anyone from willfully causing animals to suffer from neglect, pain or injury"
THAT SHOULD INCLUDE POLICE OFFICERS.
THEY. ARE. NOT. ABOVE. THE. LAW.
Laws are made for EVERYONE, not only a chosen few.
Please sign this petition to show your support and agreement hat the officers is from the Kawartha of lakes police service involved in the killing of a raccoon by beating it to death with a shovel, need to be reprimanded.
