Have Art III classes in the afternoon at Colonial Forge High School for 2026-2027 & beyond
The Issue
At Colonial Forge High School, many students have expressed a strong desire to enroll in Art III for the 2025-2026 school year. However, a significant obstacle is preventing these motivated individuals from continuing their artistic education: scheduling conflicts. Programs like the Commonwealth Governors School (CGS) require juniors and seniors to take core curriculum classes in the morning. This requirement hinders art-inclined students who are passionate about both their academic and artistic pursuits, impeding their ability to enroll in Art III courses, which currently only take place in the morning. The art teachers at CFHS have tried their best to make sure that students would be able to have this class in the afternoon, but their efforts need our support.
Advancing to Art III is not just another elective; it is a stepping stone towards preparing talented individuals for Advanced Placement (AP) art classes and potentially even future careers related to the arts. This is an opportunity to nurture creativity and artistic skills at a pivotal time in a student's educational journey.
To solve this issue, we are pushing for the creation of Art III classes during the last two blocks of the day. By making this change, the school would allow students involved in programs with morning commitments to continue to develop their artistic talents without conflict.
Implementing this schedule change is not only about accommodating specific students' needs, but also about fostering a learning environment where creativity is valued and prioritized. We urge school administrators to reassess the scheduling of Art III classes to support the artistic growth of all students, ensuring that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Join us in advocating for a balanced schedule that allows students to pursue their artistic passions alongside their academic responsibilities. By signing this petition, you are supporting a change that benefits not only individual students but the broader school community by promoting a more balanced and inclusive educational program. Please add your signature to help make this necessary change a reality.
