Shezow come back and season 2
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
SheZow first aired on the HUB on December 15th, 2012. The show continued until its final episode for season one on November 2nd 2013. The show is about a 12-year-old boy, Guy Hamdon, who inherited his aunt’s ring that grants him the power to turn into SheZow, with super powers and super gadgets to fight crime. He was dubbed as the “First Transgender Super Hero” (Even though Guy does not turn into a Girl, it is just a wardrobe/appearance change). The only problem is that the ring is meant to be worn by a girl.
The show was meant to air for a Second Season but was cancelled due group called: One Million Moms. Who really have a Twitter following of 3,700... They called the show; "another attempt by the Gay, Lesbian and Transgender community to indoctrinate our children into accepting their lifestyles,” OMM officials continue: “It won’t be long before little boys are saying, ‘I want to be a girl, so I can help people and save the world!”
I was shocked and upset when I read this in the Huffington Post.
Obie Scott Wade (creator of SheZow) argued that the show is not meant as a political statement. While the character of Guy does learn many things about himself by becoming SheZow, the main focus is on responsibility and less on gender.
Alexa, 14 - Personal opinion: SheZow is a great Superhero and the target audience is balanced for both genders. How often do you see a boy wearing a Superman, Spiderman or Batman backpack? I see it very often. What about girls? Do you see loads of girls walking around with those backpacks? The answer is: No. Why? Because they want to avoid being picked on by being called a boy for wearing a backpack “intended for boys”/backpack with “boy’s colours”. SheZow puts aside girl and boy colours; and basically says that pink and blue have no gender, and they don’t mean anything more than that other than just being colours. Just because a boy wears pink, it doesn’t always mean that he is gay/a girl; maybe he just likes the colour pink.
A more successful petition before this gained 1,442 signers and had surpassed the goal of 1,000, but was then increased to 1,500 and had 58 signatures to go: https://www.change.org/p/keep-shezow-on-the-hub-to-have-the-cartoon-shezow-stay-on-the-air-and-not-have-it-taken-off
This petition will be used to help bring a Second season of SheZow to the HUB (Discovery Family) or another channel to promote and show a second season.
