The Professor of Tolarian Community College exposed in his critical review video for MTG: Arena ( https://youtu.be/QN5bUvB6ZEo?t=10m8s ) that as the game's economic model currently exists it is in fact a predatory model designed to squeeze and confuse people into spending as much money as possible on it.

This kind of dubious business model is everything the game's original founder, Richard Garfield, warned against in his article. The current owner's of MTG are Wizards of The Coast who is in turn owned by Hasbro.
