Harvee’s Law - Amendment to Road Traffic Ordinance to include “Cat”

The Issue

Meow! I’m Harvee, a two year old Maine Coon, living in Castel, Guernsey, and I’m a community support cat and road safety / animal welfare campaigner.

Every day, come rain or shine, I’m active in my local community, delivering much needed companionship support, joy to local children, and even front line support when a canine friend calls for talented feline assistance.

Each month I cover approximately 150 miles visiting friendly households and inevitably, just like everyone else, I must make use of the road network to get to where I need to be.

It is on this road network that I am at my most vulnerable and currently I am afforded no protections, I am asking you, today, for your support to change this, not to kick to can down the road to the next political term, but to make this change today.

The required change is in section 8 of The Road Traffic (Guernsey) Ordinance 2019. That the term “Animal” shall also mean “a cat”

What does this change mean? It will mean that in the event of a collision or accident involving a vehicle and a cat, a driver must “Stop” - “provide assistance” and / or “report”

Please join me today by adding your paw print to my own, make it safer for me to go about my essential community duties and in turn you will be making Guernsey that little bit safer and more respectful for every feline adventurer.

Please ask all members of your household to sign, lets effect this change by sharing this with others today.

Let’s unite by sharing a common objective, that it is not acceptable on this fabulous and treasured island that we share, to simply abandon any cat dying or suffering, injured or in pain, discarded at the roadside, without care or even informing anyone, leaving families / communities all too often in desperate and fruitless weeks long searches.

Instead drivers must be responsible for stopping and helping any affected cat that they have collided with and a duty to report the accident. This is what your support today would achieve.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Harvee 🐾
