Thank you for your support which has helped to create a low traffic neighbourhood in West Harrow. It takes a few months for motorists to get used to the new routes, but now the streets are calmer and quieter, and hopefully it will encourage more people to walk or cycle rather than drive for short journeys. 

Unfortunately the low traffic neighbourhoods have given rise to some very vocal opposition and negative early reactions from drivers. Experience from schemes elsewhere shows that this is normal, and the opposition dies down over time as people get used to the new routes. However, it is essential for the trial to be at least 6 months in order to make a judgement on its benefits.

Although surveys show that the 'quiet majority' of people support such schemes, they do not go out of their way to provide feedback, and without your continued support there is a risk that the trial may be curtailed.

If the low traffic neighbourhood stays in place it will also support the council's future funding applications for improvements on surrounding main roads, such as cycle lanes and better pedestrian crossings.
