Goal: Fund and build all three Garbers Church Greenways (as seen on this map) by the time the new elementary school is built, thereby connecting over half of the City’s student population with walking and biking paths to their elementary, middle and high schools

Opportunity: The City of Harrisonburg has the opportunity to fund and construct several shared-use paths in the vicinity of Garbers Church Road in tandem with the 2017 opening of the City’s newest elementary school. These walking and bicycling paths would connect Harrisonburg High School, Thomas Harrison Middle School, and the future elementary school to the rest of the City.

The Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition commends and supports the City of Harrisonburg's steps and efforts to connect our future elementary school, existing high school, and Thomas Harrison middle school with greenway style trails for walking and bicycling. We strongly support the construction of these paths to be completed in the same time-frame as the construction of the new elementary school on Garbers Church Road.

We envision a connected community where families have the freedom to choose whether or not their children walk or bike to school.

We support the City of Harrisonburg's plans to fund and build 3 shared use paths to connect our city schools in conjunction with construction of our newest elementary school off of Garbers Church Road.
