The Issue

Ten doses of the Covid-19 vaccine would expire within hours, so Dr. Hasan Gokal gave it to people with medical conditions, including his wife.

He was fired from the county’s health district for allegedly taking doses of the vaccine off-site.

Late last month, criminal court judge Franklin Bynum in Harris county Texas, dismissed the case for lack of probable cause. He dismissed the charges as groundless.

After which Harris County’s district attorney, Kim Ogg, vowed to present the matter to a grand jury. And prosecutors are portraying the doctor as a cold opportunist.

The officials are maintaining the stance that Doctor Hasan Gokal, had violated protocol and should have returned the remaining doses to the office or thrown them away.

Right now, Doctor Hasan Gokal is spending his time volunteering at a nonprofit health clinic for the uninsured, haunted all the while by the realization that no matter what, it will still be out there: the story about a Pakistani doctor in Houston who stole all those vaccines.

We are asking for signatures that will result in Doctor Hasan Gokal being reinstated as the Harris County Public Health Department's Medical Director of the Covid Response Team.
