Demand the Resignation of Kaylynn Williford, Harris County chief trial lawyer!

The Issue

On June 22, 2020, Trial Bureau chief Kaylynn Williford posted on Facebook a controversial meme pertaining to Nazi abuse of power during 1940s Germany.

The meme read “Wedding bands that were removed from Holocaust victims prior to being executed, 1945. Each ring represents a destroyed family. Never forget, Nazis tore down statues. Banned free speech. Blamed economic hardships on one group of people. Instituted gun control. Sound familiar?”

Williford serves Harris County under the District Attorney's Office and has tried over 100 jury trials, some including death penalty prosecutions. While her post was reported by the Houston Chronicle on June 26th, neither Williford nor DA Ogg have addressed the June 22nd post, and according to the Chronicle, have not responded to any requests for comment as of June 27th.

During this time of so much conflict in our country due to abuses of power, Ms. Williford chose to reflect the non-violent Black Lives Matter movement with a comparison to the Nazi party. This was a deliberate decision. We will not accept a one-off apology. We will not accept any excuses. We will no longer let history take its own course without interference. We know better, and so do you, DA Ogg. For the citizens of Harris County and the future of Texas, remove Kaylynn Williford from her position at the District Attorney's Office.
