As parents we are worried sick that we haven't heard from our son who has been on hunger strike for more than 60 days in a maximum security prison. He has been held by immigration enforcement in Lindsay jail for over 28 months without charge or upcoming trial. It's time that he be released.

Before he was detained, our son Amin was trying to rebuild his life in the community. He was employed, got married and has a son.

We came to Canada as refugees in 1992 when Amin was 15. With a wife and four children to support, we had to find affordable accommodation in Toronto, especially during a tough recession in the early 1990s. As a new immigrant, we had very few choices. We managed to secure an apartment in the vicinity of Regent Park. Amin had good marks in school, but soon like many other children in the neighbourhood, Amin was taken advantage of, and got involved in negative things at a young age.

However, as he grew up he pulled himself together. He was waiting to apply for pardon and get his papers.

Our family is pleading with the government to release him into our care, so that he can be a productive member of society and he can take care of his wife, his child and himself. He will also have the opportunity to prove himself worthy to remain amongst his family and community and all being well, regularize his status.

Holding him in jail indefinitely is of no benefit to him, his family, his future or the public.

Please join us in this call for justice by signing this petition and sharing it with your friends and family.

Thank you,

Mohamed Mjasiri and Nasra Mohammed
