Justice for Vader

Justice for Vader
The Issue
On Sunday September 26th,2021 my daughter Kiara and my niece Jordan took my pug Vader for a walk. They were gone about 5 minutes when I saw them heading back to the house running. They had been approached by 2 dogs who frequently run around the neighborhood loose. Vader was attacked by the German shepherd, they were able to keep the pit bull back while my daughter tried to pull the shepherd off of my little pug. A neighbor saw what was happening and came to help free Vader from the shepherd. Once they got him away the girls rushed back to the house. We noticed he was bleeding and rushed him to the emergency vet, my Vader died in my arms on the way.
When I called to file a police report with the Harnett County Sheriff Department they sent me to animal control, I spoke to an animal control officer and they told me someone would be out. I did see a animal control truck come to the house where the incident occurred, but still have not heard anything back.
Upon further research I found out that Harnett County has no leash laws in place. And many of the other laws in place are more favorable to the negligent owner such as ‘if a unleashed dog come onto your property and growls at you, you should try to shoo it away and maybe ask yourself why they’re going into you yard!’ ‘Go talk to your neighbor and let them know because they may not be aware.’ Seriously? We need stricter laws and we need them now!!! This area has grown in the past 3 years I’ve lived here and it’s continuing to grow. Too many people let their dogs roam around unleashed and it has become a problem. It’s because of the negligence of these dogs owners my Vader is dead. This could have been someone’s child!
My daughter and niece are going to have the images of what happened in their head for the rest of their lives!!! I am grateful the girls walked away with just some scratches. The scratches will go away but the mental scars this incident caused will not! This was senseless and could have been prevented!!! Harnett County needs to do better!
