Petition to Retain the Dog Exercise Area in Harleston Recreation Ground

We, the undersigned, wish to express our strong support for keeping the existing dog exercise pen within Harleston Recreation Ground.

This space is far more than a fenced enclosure. It provides a safe area for dogs to exercise freely, supports responsible dog ownership, and plays an important role in the wellbeing of local residents. For many, it is a daily meeting point that helps reduce isolation, strengthen community ties, and promote both physical and mental health.

The removal of the dog pen would have a significant negative impact on dog owners, walkers, and those who rely on this shared space for social connection and routine.

We fully support the development of new community facilities, including the proposed clubhouse. However, this should not come at the expense of existing, well-used amenities. A recreation ground should serve the whole community, and that includes those who use the dog exercise area.

We respectfully ask that the decision-makers reconsider any plans to remove the dog pen and instead explore options to retain or relocate it within the recreation ground.
