Stop the Pub in the Park

The Issue

We are opposed to plans to run an outdoor pub venue selling alcohol in Finsbury Park from May to September leading to noise, excessive drinking, litter and possible anti-social behaviour, at a crucial time when we need our parks to be a space of peace, tranquillity and safety.

The site between the athletics track and Manor House will take over a large picnic area in an already extremely busy park. The bar will be open from noon to 9pm, from Wednesday to Sundays, for 18 weeks with live and recorded amplified music, food outlets, and toilet block, all enclosed by a large perimeter fence. Local residents need to act swiftly to stop this.

This new venue will have an extremely negative impact on the atmosphere of the whole park, with local residents suffering loud music that travels far beyond the perimeter boundary. So people will have to hear it, whether they like it or not.

A proposal by the same company to install a similar venue in Ruskin Park has been rejected by Lambeth Council following widespread opposition from the local community.  We want Haringey Council to reject this application too.

Our local pubs need trade. Parks are not pubs. We need to restore our parks for nature not for commercial gain.

URGENT:
