Make Finsbury Park, N4 Safe for Children, Women, Families, Everyone! inc. Dusk & Dawn

The Issue

Finsbury Park is not safe to enjoy or travel through, particularly at dusk, dawn and when dark. Community, inc Children are unable to access sports facilities via lit pathways and children travelling to school are at risk of phone theft and attacks.
There have been reports of frequent attacks and anti-social behavior on daily basis inc. drug dealing/taking. The murder of Iuliana Tudos was around 8:30pm, a time when we should be able to access the park and sports facilities safely.

Many people, including children, women and families want to use the park to travel through by foot and bike to get to school/work and feel vulnerable.

There are key recreational activity incl for children and families at Tennis Courts, Running Club with sessions after school and in the evening and not accessible in winter  (Recent report of incidents when children travelling tennis lessons at dusk.)

There is no lighting on major walkways and access/entrance paths, minimum CCTV and  patrol and the Park is commonly referred to by locals as lawless and dangerous.

Families are also upset that the park feels so hostile to children at entrances –via seven sisters & Finsbury park entrance is bleak.    The pandemic has made accessibility to welcoming green space even more vital, especially for children/YP mental health and many families around Finsbury park live in small flats.
e.g. There is a large derelict area by lidl on seven sisters road, once a children's space.

Finsbury Park is where Islington and Hackney residents feel most unsafe in a survey included here https://www.hackneygazette.co.uk/news/safety-survey-esults-for-hackney-and-islington-8122792

The current Haringey’s 2020 Park Management Plan for Finsbury Park is not suffice - referred to here https://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/news/crime/finsbury-park-gates-stay-open-8450374

A petition from 2017 raised 6k signatures after a murder in the park.  https://chng.it/FSF67wPhnF

Safety measures to be implemented as an EMERGENCY in the park
- live monitored CCTV, lighting at skate-park and on main carriage way from seven sisters and on walk way to Finsbury Park tube.
- Zero tolerance to the gangs of drug dealing at the all entrances and inside the park with regular foot patrols of men and women officers with dogs.
Emergency funding must be found. Park wants to be open, safe and accessible for all.

And Medium Term, in consultation with families and community, redesign and improve the entrance of the park with lighting and welcoming child friendly design
- Finsbury park station walkway
- Seven Sisters road,
