Hanover Students in Favor of 10 point Grading Scale
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
As students approaching high school and middle school, you are probably well aware of the un-level playing field Hanover County Schools have in comparison with surrounding counties. You are on a 7-point grading scale, while many other surrounding counties are on a 10-point grading scale. You could be earning the exact same number grades as a Chesterfield student, and when a transcript is sent out, those EXACT same number grades are translated into letters. Your GPA could be a 3.4 compared with a Chesterfield, Henrico or Richmond student who would have a 4.2. With a 3.4, you would be ineligible for many scholarships that require a minimum of a 3.75 GPA - yet you are making the exact same grades as these other students. And they get to apply to colleges with a 4.2 GPA, and they get to apply for those scholarships with a 4.2 GPA. Who do you think is going to be put at the top of the pile of college applications? Whose GPA will get recognized in this highly competitive arena? You've worked just as hard - if not harder for your grades - yet you are penalized and have no control over this. The chart on this page clearly shows this. Please take a look. https://www.facebook.com/hanover10point/
We want you to know we are on your side, and have been working very hard for you. But some of the board members, especially the Hanover County School Board chairman, seems to think that we are a small number of parents in the community who want to see this change. Mr. Axselle was quoted as saying, "We just want to see little Johnny and Little Suzy make more As." That could not be farther from the truth. He says he has not even heard from any students who care about this change.
So this is where we need you! We MUST hear from you. We need you to sign this petition. We need your friends, and your friend's friends to sign this petition. Sign it whether you are a senior or a 6th grader. Let's all make a difference. But we need to act quickly. We need this to spread like wildfire. We know that you guys are capable through social media to make this happen. It only takes a few seconds to sign and pass along. And those few seconds will make a HUGE IMPACT in the long run.
We also need you to attend the April 4th meeting at 7:00 p.m. - support posters in hand. We need you, your parents, your siblings - anyone who would be affected by this change. You don't have to stay for the whole meeting, just for 10-point scale discussion.
Finally, like our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/hanover10point/ Get your friends, parents, aunts, uncles and cousins to like our facebook page. The chairman seems to think with more than 800 followers and more than 1,300 families connected through this page, that again "we are a small number of supporters."
