In a MetroTimes article published on September 29th, 2021, extremely alarming comments made by James Allen were revealed. These comments were directed at a wheelchair user that became disabled in a random drive-by shooting. This is not the behavior of an ethical, moral attorney. Hamtramck deserves better. 

Just one of the phrases reported in this article (linked below) is enough to indicate that this man and his law firm should no longer represent the City of Hamtramck:  

“I love to walk. And run. And do things that others can’t. God doth have a great sense of humor and, in your case, a keen sense of justice.”

Hamtramck has many seniors and disabled residents, many of whom use wheelchairs for mobility. Regardless of the context of which this email was sent - if this type of speech is allowed to go without consequence, what message does that send to the residents of Hamtramck?

We recognize that the city has put Jim Allen on unpaid leave, but this is not enough. The city has a duty towards disabled residents to end the contract with Allen Brothers LLC, and replace them with a law firm that respects all residents of Hamtramck.
