The Tide Light Rail needs to be extended from its current terminus into Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is the largest city in the state, and has no direct connection to intercity passenger rail service. An extension of the Tide Light Rail into Virginia Beach from Norfolk will allow for a hassle-free connection between HRT (Hampton Roads Transit) and Amtrak's Northeast Regional at the Norfolk Station. When initially proposed, the idea was rejected. This is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. I am an avid transit enthusiast, and rail transport enthusiast. Norfolk and Virginia Beach are currently isolated from each other, however, with strenuous effort, we can link the two cities together via light rail. We must act NOW to extend the Tide Light Rail from Norfolk into Virginia Beach!
