Hayling Island is such a small and integrated community with limited infrastructure. We have one waste and recycling centre on the island and the next closest is a circuitous route to Harts' Farm Way in Havant. Those of us that use the centre (and that is a LOT as can be seen by the queues at the weekends) will have to travel off the island with a round trip of at least an hour to use a centre. There will be those that simply won't make the journey and there is danger that our lovely island will become a centre for fly-tipping. Hampshire County Council cite cost cutting as the motivation behind this decision and are beginning consultation on closures as part of the new contract to be awarded. There will allegedly be a public consultation later this month. Let's make our views known NOW and keep our island clean and easy access for all of our residents to waste and recycling facilities.............after all isn't this just another potential removal of services we pay for as part of our council tax??
