Why this petition matters

Started by Cameron Kroetsch

It's clear that public trust between Hamiltonians and their municipal government has been completely broken in the wake of the stunning revelation that Chedoke Creek and Cootes Paradise have been flooded with 24 billion litres of mixed sewage for more than 4 years.

While technicians within the Provincial government look into the ecological disaster, it's our responsibility as residents to hold our local government accountable for covering it up.

It is clear that they are not willing to be transparent and forthcoming about everything they knew based on their attempts to keep the magnitude of this disaster from the public.

We may have never learned of the magnitude of the leak if it weren’t for the brave actions of a whistleblower.

This petition asks that City Council launch a public judicial inquiry, as soon as possible, to investigate what happened, who knew, and when they knew, including a full and thorough investigation of the coverup from when the spill started to the day that The Hamilton Spectator broke the story. An investigation must also include the suppression of any information leading up to the 2018 municipal election and any impacts that suppression may have had on the outcome.

Spread the word. Let's get as many Hamiltonians on board as possible. If our Council can launch a public judicial inquiry to investigate the Red Hill Valley Parkway scandal, then they can ensure that there is an impartial investigation with public hearings of the #SewerGate coverup.
