I am deeply moved by the continued decline in the population of wolverines in Alberta, a province I call home. These remarkable creatures, already scarce in numbers, need our support more than ever. 

Research conducted by the Wildlife Conservation Society Canada in 2019 revealed that wolverine populations in Alberta are at a record low, with numbers as few as a couple hundred. The rugged, tenacious wolverine, once a symbol of the untamed wilderness in the Rockies, now teeters on the edge of extinction due to relentless trapping and habitat loss. 

This case isn't just about the survival of a species. It's about maintaining the integrity of our environment, the balance of our ecosystems, and ultimately, the health of our planet. Wolverines play a crucial role in our ecosystem as scavengers and predators, but this role is threatened by continuous trapping activities on top of deforestation, open pit mining, tailing ponds and other development that reduces their habitat daily.
