In 2022, Thorndon Quay Hutt Road Collective challenged the Council's decision to remove all the angle parking in Thorndon Quay. We were unsuccessful in the High Court, but today, the Court of Appeal accepted our argument that the decision was illegal. This won't give our car parks back, but it will force council officers across the country to put all practicable options for change in front of councillors - not just their preferred option.

We continue to press for a pause to this project whilst an independent review of the project is undertaken. The review should examine: -

• How such flawed data came to be included in the business cases?
• Why was the Council so opposed to an assessment of the impacts that the roading changes would have on businesses?
• Why did officers ignore the advice that Wellington Water gave to replace certain pipes that lie directly under bus shelters, curbing and other expensive parts of the roading infrastructure?
