As a devoted dog owner, I find myself in a predicament that many other pet owners share. I have two dogs that fit the broad criteria of what is classified as an "XL Bully" breed. This means they are at risk of being euthanized. They will now have to be muzzled constantly and only allowed outside on a lead, not to mention the nearly £100 each for an exemption certificate. These dogs are more than just pets; they are cherished members of our families.

The current legislation unfairly targets XL Bullies, despite them being only one among many breeds that have caused harm to humans. It is unjust to put so many good dogs to sleep and subject families to the pain of losing their beloved pets due to these regulations.

We propose instead introducing dog licensing laws, along with fines and prison sentences for owners whose animals cause harm to humans. This approach would shift responsibility onto those who control these animals rather than blaming specific breeds.

All dogs can potentially be dangerous if not properly trained or controlled by their handlers - it's time we make people more accountable for their pets' actions rather than condemning entire breeds based on isolated incidents.
