Halt the West Main Street Paving and Reconstruction Project

The Issue

I, along with many others in our community, object to the West Main Street paving and reconstruction project that threatens to disrupt our lives and endanger the safety of our streets. Currently, this section of our town hosts a 4-lane highway, functioning smoothly and causing no problems. The proposed changes aim to slash this into two lanes, add a parking lot, a bicycle lane, and an ill-advised middle turning lane that allows for both right and left turns. This, we firmly believe, will not only cause unnecessary congestion but also raise the potential for more traffic accidents in the area.

While we understand the intention is to modify the roadways for better use, the approach taken so far overlooks the very community it purports to serve. We happen to live here, and it's our experience of the road that counts. But we feel unheard, our ideas and feedback seemingly unimportant in the planning phase.

We urge our local authorities' deep consideration of input from residents before going ahead with such drastic and potentially dangerous changes. We're not opposed to progress, but we do advocate for meaningful participation in the decisions that directly affect us and our community. The hazards of reckless redesign are too grave to ignore, and the wisdom of the crowd too rich to dismiss.

Your signature on this petition represents our unified voice, urging our local City Council to reconsider the current proposal. Please sign, and let's make sure our community is heard.
