Halt the Townhome Development in Oceanway

Halt the Townhome Development in Oceanway
The Issue
Living in the heart of Oceanway, where the charm is in its expansive, untouched green spaces and the peace of residential tranquility, the very essence of our community is under threat. The proposed development of townhomes and duplexes at the intersection of Starratt Road and Yellow Bluff Road threatens to irreversibly alter the landscape and disrupt the idyllic lifestyle many of us here cherish.
Our neighborhood, known for its natural beauty and ample breathing room, could fall victim to overdevelopment. Increasing dense residential projects such as these not only poses a risk to our environment but also leads to congested roadways and strains on public services. Oceanway’s infrastructure is not prepared for the substantial population influx these constructions will bring, risking safety and quality of life for current residents.
The potential for increased accidents and flooding is concerning for the many families who call this place home. This intersection needs improvements and this development will not allow any room for road improvement.
We’re not against development, but it must be thoughtful, sustainable, and in line with the needs and capabilities of our community infrastructure. Instead of going ahead with these multifamily projects that could harm our neighborhood's character, we propose a comprehensive community consultation process where resident voices are actively engaged in shaping the future of Oceanway. Proposals that focus on enhancing current amenities, preserving green spaces, and improving infrastructure would be a more progressive approach than drastic high density residential build-ups. The current zoning is 1 acre per dwelling. This development is proposing 32 duplex units on less than 10 acres. This is not compatible with our area.
The fight is not just about preserving aesthetics or maintaining property values. It’s about protecting the identity, safety, and long-term health of our community. The decisions made today will indelibly shape the future of Oceanway for generations.
Join us in urging city planners and developers to reconsider their plans. Demand responsible development that prioritizes the well-being and vision of current residents. Sign this petition to protect the heart and future of Oceanway.
