Dear Signatories,

A few of us who started the petition met briefly with Kathryn Barger regarding Altadena. We conveyed to her the following perspective from concerned Altadenans who have signed the petition:

  1. WSGVAP induced significant downzoning in northern Altadena to accommodate targeted upzoning throughout southern Altadena while claiming to maintain the same aggregate density across Altadena.
  2. WSGVAP induced significant upzoning throughout Southern Altadena, exceeding the state mandated RHNA allocations which are mainly concentrated on Lake.
  3. A clear call to action from locals to instantiate a grass-roots, equitable, iterative process that addresses these issues with a process that is aligned with the principles of local representative democracy and halt this top-down approach.
  4. Many perceive similar issues from the ESGVAP, with no attempt to update the WSGVAP process based on the ESGVAP lessons learned.
  5. Many perceive the county as self-serving and not aligned with the interests of Altadena. This sentiment is further compounded by discussions about incorporation of Altadena into a separate city.

Although nothing was decided, we are definitely getting heard.  I remain hopeful even if the WSGVAP is passed, some items may improve as a result of this.  If you meet with any of the Board of Supervisors please feel free to share your experiences too in the comments of the petition.

The Board of Supervisors vote on this on December 10th.  It is also important that you please take a moment to record your opposition to this plan for the public record.

SUBJECT: OBJECTION FOR WSGVAP

Dear Board of Supervisors,

I object to the top-down approach that the planning department has taken to rezone my community with the WSGVAP. I advocate for a bottom-up, inclusive, equitable, decision-making process that aligns with the principles of local representative democracy.
