Halt the Three-Weekly Waste Disposal Scheme
Halt the Three-Weekly Waste Disposal Scheme
The Issue
Coming from Flint I am directly impacted by the three-weekly waste disposal scheme, I am compelled to challenge this plan. As a resident, I, like many others, strongly disapprove of this scheme. The transition from a fortnightly waste disposal cycle to a three-weekly cycle poses potential threats to sanitation and public health.
Let's consider the facts. According to reports by the Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP) in 2015, weekly collections of residual waste "is likely to lead to higher amounts of waste being generated" when compared to fortnightly collections. The proposed three-weekly collections consequently may even more dramatically increase our waste generation.
Moreover, in a study published in Waste Management & Research journal, patient wastage was found to increase in residences with less frequent waste collection, leading to the potential for increased health risks.
This type of change in our waste management system can have consequences for our community and our environment. Residents deserve better waste management strategies than a potentially hazardous three-week cycle.
I urge everyone who lives in our local area, and those who care about sensible waste management, to sign this petition. Together, we can make a difference and advocate for a responsible and practical solution.
