The Issue

To: The Town of Taos Town Council, Mayor Pascualito Maestas, City Manager Andrew Gonzales, County Manager Brent Jaramillo and the Town of Taos, NM and County of NM.

The undersigned Residents, Business Owners, Visitors and Land Owners of the Town and County of Taos, NM. do hereby respectfully request and make an appeal to reason, that all construction activities within the Heart of the Taos Plaza be halted and restored to the public, including a full scope of the proposed work, public input, a budget and a schedule.

We the Undersigned do not believe that there has been sufficient consideration of the Public's concern regarding:

* Determination of actual ownership of the Plaza Heart (Center area of the Plaza) and the Town's entitlement to make repairs or modifications to the existing center of the Plaza.

* Historical evaluation and current involvement by ALL stakeholders.

* We do not believe proper processes for Public Works construction are being followed and the project is floundering without a completed design or set direction. Though we understand and appreciate this is "Phase One" we would like a representation fully presented at open public forums of the ideas in place currently for the continuation of what will happen in "Phase One" and "Phase Two" We also appreciate your openness to consider new and additional ideas.

* No approved construction plans have been presented for public review or comment in the last 3 years.

* No visible progress has been made since early summer and no finite completion date has been given.

* The rush to remove healthy trees without public input or acknowledgement.

* The impact to businesses and tourism has not been adequately evaluated and mitigated to protect struggling businesses, still recovering from Covid 19, to ensure that the project is completed in a timely manner to minimize any additional long term impact.

Thank you and we appreciate your attention to this matter.
