The Issue

My life has been intimately linked with the small, serene village of Horning's Mills - a place of spacious lots and low-key activity. However, that tranquility is threatened. A new subdivision development of 26 houses is being proposed which risks changing the character of our tight-knit community. It will dramatically increase the density of our historic village and introduce unnecessary traffic to our quiet lanes. Our schools, already burdened, just can't absorb a sudden increase in numbers.

Horning's Mills has always been cherished by its residents for its modesty and tranquility. This rapid urbanization threatens not only the charm of our community but also its ability to function sustainably. The proposed development is alarmingly disproportionate - currently, the community consists of only around 140 houses. Adding 26 more houses represents nearly a 20% increase - a significant figure that disrupts the balance of the community we've cultivated over time.  This will bring an addition of 56 cars to our already busy roads.

More importantly, our local schools are already struggling because of overcrowding. Placing additional burdens on our education system is not only unfair but also detrimental to the quality of learning in these institutions. The impact of such a development is far-reaching and not sufficiently considered.

We have the additional threat of two quarries that we do not know how that will effect existing residence.

It's time for us to protect our homes, preserve our way of life, and safeguard our children's futures. Stand with me to stop this rushed and shortsighted development. Sign the petition to say no to the new subdivision of 26 homes in Horning's Mills or ask for a the proposal to be a more reasonable number of homes that is suitable to our small town.

This proposal is currently in the hands of the Niagara Escarpment Commission.  Everyone is encouraged to write to Niagara Escarpment Commission  nec@ontario.ca
